Purpose of Job:

To deliver goods to customers' premises as per the pre-set schedule, to pick and check all goods from the freezer, chiller, or ambient compartments of the vehicle, together with any other additional duties required to ensure the efficiency of the business.

Main Duties:

  • Carry out a vehicle walkaround check before using any company vehicle.
  • Carry out deliveries as planned by the Route Planner transport Supervisory Team.
  • Check and agree the correct quantities are delivered for each order with the customer, amend any discrepancies on the POD FATHER system at the point of delivery, record any pallet swaps, collections, and take a photo if required.
  • Responsible for collecting payments via the chip and pin machine from customers where applicable and collecting cheques.
  • Record and check all daily returns, placing them in the designated area within the warehouse.
  • Record overloads/pallets on the POD FATHER end of day report.
  • Return phones, chip and pin customer keys, etc., to the supervisors/warehouse office.
  • Take all empty pallets off the vehicle and place them in the designated area within the warehouse; recycle all plastic and cardboard using the bailer within the warehouse.
  • Clean and refuel all fuel tanks and check the vehicle daily before parking and locking it in the designated area in the yard; return keys to the supervisors/warehouse office.
  • Download digital driver’s cards at the end of each week.
  • Record all time spent on duty on the tacho card or complete a manual record.
  • Monitor vehicle temperatures throughout the day and hand in vehicle temperature printouts to the supervisors/warehouse office daily.
  • Ensure all defects are recorded promptly and that maximum axle weights are adhered to with loads evenly distributed.

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, as well as that of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions.
  • Promptly report any hazards, unsafe practices, incidents, or near misses to your line manager or the Health & Safety team.
  • Cooperate with management on all matters relating to health and safety, including attending mandatory training and following issued guidance or instructions.
  • Use equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) properly and as instructed to minimise risk.
  • Participate in risk assessments and contribute to the identification and control of workplace hazards.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety by actively engaging in health and safety initiatives and suggestions.

Job Requirements:

  • Class 2 Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) licence
  • Confidence, self-motivation, and enthusiasm
  • Good knowledge of road networks
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Be a good team player
  • Valid DQC/CPC card
  • Excellent knowledge of driver’s hours regulations
