Bakerwell Ltd are looking for an experienced Consultant Ecologist to join our growing friendly team in the Kent countryside in a full time, permanent position. The Bakerwell team carry out surveys and design strategies, working with our clients to ensure conservation outcomes for biodiversity can be delivered. We work across the southeast, occasionally further afield, with much of our work within the Kent and Sussex area.

We are looking for an experienced ecologist with strong organisational, technical report writing, QGIS or ArcGIS and field survey skills experience. Responsibilities
- Protected species and botanical/habitat surveys.
- Design of habitat restoration / creation on schemes.
- Habitat assessment, mapping, metric use for delivering BNG.
- Undertaking Ecological Impact Assessments.
- Project management.
- Protected species mitigation license applications and supervision.
- Providing guidance for junior / trainee ecologists.

What you will bring to the role
Essential
- A minimum of 2-3 years experience, within a consultancy environment.
- Graduate / post-graduate degree in ecology or a related topic.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humour and passion to learn.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work on multiple projects.
- One or more protected species survey license/s, evidence of progress towards others.
- Experience in a range of habitat and field surveys on small to large projects, analysing and interpreting data.
- Evidence of preparing professional reports including PEA and EA.
- Good understanding of the planning process, ecological legislation, policy, application for mitigation and management measures.
- Experienced in UK Habs and BNG metric and reporting.
- Ability to work outdoors, at appropriate times for species surveys in line with survey guidance in a variety of locations (usually in the southeast).
- Hold a UK driving licence, have own vehicle, be prepared to travel to different sites.
- CIEEM membership.
Desirable
- Experience of EDS, EMP, EcIA, HRA and protected species mitigation licence applications.
- Named ecologist/ accredited agent on EPSML within the last 3 years.
- FISC level 3 / 4 (or equivalent) level.
- Experienced managing projects, site supervision, liaising with junior staff, clients, subcontractors, and site staff.
- CSCS and other H&S training certificates.
