Role: Trainee Heritage Building Craftsman
Overview
We are a long-established Essex based construction company, carrying out a broad spectrum of works from specialised restoration works to churches and listed buildings, to mainstream construction and insurance repairs. Bakers of Danbury are recruiting our craftsman for the future and we are now seeking a Trainee Building Craftsman specialising in stone, brick and plaster who will work within our Church and Heritage Building Department. We offer a full-time position where you will be working as part of the onsite team gaining practical hands-on construction experience. This will combine with entry onto our bespoke Heritage Training Programme allowing you to further develop your craftsmanship skills within a recognised training programme.
Skills and Attributes Required
- You should be practically minded, self-motivated, committed, and keen to develop and learn about the built environment.
- You should also possess an interest for traditional techniques and historical buildings.
- You will need to have a flexible approach and attitude as the position will require the candidate to work at various locations throughout the East of England.
- You will be expected to perform general labour tasks as needed.
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean work environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
- A willingness to learn.
- Good problem solving skills.
- The ability to take direction from supervisors.

The Bakers Heritage Training Programme
The position will give you access to our own Heritage Training Programme. This has been designed for individuals who are either beginning their journey in the construction industry or seeking to advance their careers in new areas. It places a specific emphasis on developing the skills required to work on the restoration and conservation of historical buildings and churches. Practical experience is fundamental and so the training programme is built around onsite based NVQs and externally accredited Bakers training modules. It will lead to becoming a Bakers of Danbury Heritage building craftsperson, incorporating an NVQ Level 2 in FaΓ§ade Preservation.
Salary and Benefits
- Hours of work β Monday to Friday, 07:30am to 04:30pm.
