Plasterer for Specialist Works Department - Bakers of Danbury Ltd

Location: Site based. Head Office in Danbury, Essex

Work Area: Essex and surrounding areas

Job Type: Full time, permanent

Hours of Work: 42.5 hours/week

What we are looking for:

Established over 145 years ago, Bakers of Danbury are a privately owned Essex based heritage building contractor with an excellent reputation for conservation expertise and quality. We work across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire as well as into east, north and central London. We are looking for a plasterer to join our Special Works Department, with the opportunity to develop specialist skills working on heritage, historic and listed buildings. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills into conservation and heritage work. An eye for detail, a keen interest in building preservation and a pride in one's work is essential.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop traditional plastering skills while gaining hands on experience working alongside experienced craftsmen on a range of restoration and refurbishment projects. The role will involve the following:

  • Applying plaster finishes, including layer coats and skimming
  • External renders
  • Background preparations - metal and wooden lathes, carrier boards, plaster boards
  • Setting up grounds, beads and drips etc
  • Developing free hand working to suit heritage situations
  • Working with lime and chalk based plasters and renders

Skills and Experience:

  • Time already worked in industry, including some experience of working with plaster finishes
  • Available to travel to project sites; predominantly across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire
  • Knowledge and use of construction health and safety requirements
  • Positive attitude, good communicator and a team player

The Bakers of Danbury Special Works Department works on a wide variety of projects involving the restoration and repair of historical buildings, listed properties and traditional homes. We work with both commercial and residential clients. We are renowned for our high quality work and skilled craftsmanship using materials and methods that focus on preserving properties and combine the traditional with modern techniques. The successful applicant will be working alongside other skilled craftsmen and tradesmen who are all highly valued members of our team.

Salary and Benefits:
