About the Bench Joiner Position

We are looking to recruit a Bench Joiner to join our expanding and thriving Joinery Division situated at our joinery workshop in Danbury. The successful applicant will have an excellent track record being skilled in creating high quality traditional and bespoke joinery with previous experience of woodworking machinery and working from CAD drawings. This is an exciting and varied role which focuses on the production of high quality joinery for projects on some of the finest heritage, church, residential and historical buildings in the area. Your work will include architectural joinery, handcrafted timber windows and doors, sash window manufacture and repairs, bespoke fitted furniture, kitchen design and build, oak arch windows, detailed woodturning, and specialist wood carving. An eye for detail, an interest in building preservation and a pride in one’s work is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working within the joinery workshop to create and produce high quality, traditional and bespoke joinery products.
  • Understanding and working from CAD and PDF drawings.
  • Producing and working from cutting lists taken directly off drawings.
  • Setting up and operating the workshop machinery, including planers, thicknessers, spindle moulders and cross‑cutting techniques.
  • Working on site and being part of the installation team as required.
  • Working alongside the workshop manager and other team members to continually improve our workshop procedures, observe Health and Safety rules, and be observant of possible hazards in the workplace.
  • Being hardworking with an eye for detail and a passion for your craft.

What we do

The Bakers of Danbury joinery workshop works alongside our other departments to fulfil the joinery requirements for our own Bakers of Danbury projects as well as taking orders directly from individual clients. We provide a full design, production and installation service for commercial, private and ecclesiastical clients. We also advise on construction techniques, materials and design drawings for approval. We pride ourselves on creating high‑quality handcrafted products by combining traditional with new techniques. We work on a wide variety of projects specialising in the preservation and conservation of historical buildings, listed properties and churches and our joinery provision is key to the success of these.
