This Associate will have an important role, working closely with both the senior associates and Partners in the team. Notwithstanding that, and perhaps more importantly, we expect the Associate to have an immediate and managing role directly with our clients and other offices across EMEA and globally.Main responsibilities:The role will be complex and wide-ranging, and will involve:Providing advice to internationally mobile clients, including for foreign nationals and entrepreneurs living and/or investing in the UK, advising on planning structures and undertaking substantial cross-border and tax transactions for high value clients/financial institutionsDeveloping ongoing relationships with an existing client base as well as develop new contactsDeveloping close working relationships with colleagues in overseas offices actively involved in this field including Zurich, Geneva, Hong Kong, Singapore, Miami and New YorkFurther promoting close working relationships with other departments within the London office including the Litigation, Employee Benefits and broader Tax teamsTaking an active role in the prestigious International Annual Tax and Trust conference held by the firm in London and in other internal and external speaking engagementsEngaging in business development activities and being active in the promotion of the firm and seeking opportunities for new workWorking as part of a team including assisting with the supervision of junior lawyers’ and trainees' work, and taking an active part in sharing knowledge and experience with the teamSkills and experience:The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate all or the majority of the following:A qualified wealth management associate/ tax advisor (mid-level lawyer or accountant) with experience of UK tax planning for international and UK UHNW individuals and families and their family officesStrong experience and detailed knowledge of the taxation of UK resident non-UK domiciliaries and international tax planningPrevious experience at a London firm or a leading regional law firm with a strong specialisation in this field or an accountancy firm First rate technical skills needed to support the client work of the departmentStrong personal skills to develop a client-facing role for a culturally diverse client baseCommerciality and demonstrable business development experienceExcellent written communication and drafting skillsExcellent academic credentialsAbility to work independentlyInitiative and proactivityMaturity and gravitasStrong service orientation - a "client first" cultureAbility to develop strong relationships with clients and to take responsibility for this relationshipHigh work standardsOutstanding communication skills and the ability to adapt style as requiredAbility to work well in both a team and individuallyA keenness to learnRespects and enjoys the diversity of cultural, social and academic backgrounds found in the FirmAt Baker McKenzie we are different in the way we think, work and behave.
