This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer to join BakerHicks, supporting the expansion of our Land Quality and Geo-Environmental capability across the UK. Whether based in London or Motherwell, you will play an important role in strengthening our regional presence. In London, this includes helping establish and grow a team. In Motherwell, you will contribute to the continued development of an expanding capability.

The Team and Projects

  • Work across infrastructure, aviation, nuclear, life sciences and public sector projects
  • Exposure to varied and technically engaging work
  • Part of a wider multidisciplinary business

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Geo-Environmental and Ground Engineering outputs across project lifecycles
  • Prepare and review Phase 1 Desk Studies and Conceptual Site Models
  • Prepare and review Phase 2 interpretative reports and risk assessments
  • Undertake ground gas risk assessments in line with BS8485 and CIRIA guidance
  • Prepare Remediation Method Statements
  • Specify and support ground investigations, including laboratory testing
  • Review technical work produced by junior engineers and graduates
  • Support and mentor early-career team members
  • Attend client meetings and site visits
  • Review subcontractor reports for technical quality and compliance
  • Manage project budgets, timelines and delivery expectations
  • Contribute to the development of Geo-Environmental services

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience within a Geo-Environmental or Engineering Consultancy at Engineer or Senior Engineer level
  • Chartered membership (SocEnv, Geological Society, CIWEM or similar)
  • Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Applied Geology or related discipline
  • Experience delivering Phase 1 and Phase 2 reports and risk assessments
  • Strong understanding of ground investigation techniques and sampling methods
  • Familiarity with current UK standards and guidance
  • Commercial awareness including budgets and delivery timelines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Materials Management Plans
  • Soil classification tools such as HazWasteOnline or WM3
  • Input to fee proposals
  • Sector experience in aviation, infrastructure, nuclear or life sciences
