Baker Hicks provides a managed service for a major UK Defence Contractor, delivering Configuration Management support across CAD, BIM, Surveying, Compliance, Data Analytics, Handover, and Tooling. Our team of approximately 70 specialists is embedded across client sites, supporting critical manufacturing and operational programmes.
We are currently seeking a PP&E CAD Engineer to join our client‑side team, working closely with the PP&E Manager and Project Managers as part of a collaborative Mechanical CAD Design and Engineering function.
The Role
You will play a key role in the design and delivery of plant, property and equipment (PP&E), providing high‑quality CAD support using Autodesk Inventor. Your work will directly support Manufacturing Engineers, Operational Facilities, Production Areas and programme teams, ensuring equipment solutions meet manufacturing process requirements within your delegated areas of responsibility.
Key Objectives
- Design equipment and/or provide PP&E CAD support to project teams using Autodesk Inventor
- Present design concepts and CAD outputs at process and design reviews
- Produce and support technical product specifications, including drawings and related documentation
- Manage models and data using document management systems such as Autodesk Vault
- Ensure all mechanical CAD outputs meet client quality standards and technical requirements
- Follow approved processes for integrating record information into configured baselines in line with service strategy
- Organise models, parts and data using hierarchical assembly structures, ensuring consistency across the company baseline
- Deliver project modelling outputs and ensure effective integration of modelling information
- Collaborate with project teams to rationalise requirements and resolve issues relating to working model datasets
- Stay up to date with emerging CAD and model verification technologies, contributing to continuous improvement
Person Specification
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent recognised engineering training
- Advanced working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor
- Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and processes, working within common data environments
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven product design experience, ideally within a production support environment
- Experience generating and modifying design documentation packages, including calculations and technical reports
- Practical knowledge of machine tools, production activities and manufacturing processes
- Understanding of pressure systems and/or piping systems; knowledge of electrical systems (E,C&I) and cabling is desirable
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interrogate data and present outputs to client requirements
