BakerHicks is seeking a Planner to support the delivery of projects within the utilities and power sector, including HV power, transmission, and distribution environments. This role will focus on developing, maintaining, and analysing project schedules across engineering design, construction support, and handover activities. You’ll work closely with multi‑disciplinary design teams, Project Managers, and clients to ensure programme alignment, identify risk early, and contribute to high‑quality project delivery.
As Planner, you will take responsibility for managing project schedules that support contract compliance, project objectives, and client expectations. You’ll be embedded within project teams, providing clear planning insight, accurate reporting, and proactive risk management across multiple workstreams. This role suits an experienced planning professional who is confident working within engineering and construction environments and enjoys collaborative, client-facing project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules covering design, construction support, and handover.
- Ensure schedules capture all deliverables, dependencies, interfaces, and review cycles.
- Administer programme controls in line with contractual obligations and internal procedures.
- Monitor progress against baseline plans and provide timely schedule and earned value updates.
- Identify variances, risks, and mitigation strategies, escalating issues where required.
- Support resource planning, capacity tracking, and identification of potential constraints.
- Prepare regular progress reports highlighting milestones, performance trends, and areas of concern.
- Act as a key point of contact for planning-related communications with internal teams and clients.
- Support risk, contingency, and scenario planning to protect delivery outcomes.
About You
You will be an established Planner with experience supporting engineering or construction projects in the utilities or power sector, and comfortable engaging with clients, contractors, and multi‑disciplinary teams.
You’ll bring:
- Experience developing and managing robust project schedules in complex environments, preferably in a design-based environment, overseeing multiple projects from small to large projects including power sector related projects that isn't rail related as these fall under a different scope.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and earned value management capability.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic project setting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A proactive, collaborative approach with strong attention to detail.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in a planning or project controls role within engineering, construction, utilities, or power (not rail related).
- Knowledge of the engineering design process, particularly within HV power, transmission & distribution, or utilities.
- Experience working with engineering and construction contractors.
- Confident interacting with client representatives and project stakeholders.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to attend project sites as required.
