With the team expanding, this Principal Transport Planner role presents an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver high-profile, sustainable transport planning projects, while supervising and mentoring a growing team within a multi-disciplinary environment.

As part of a dynamic team, you will spearhead the development of transport planning solutions from concept through to implementation. You will work across a variety of sectors, including Power, Custodial, Defence, and Development Planning, ensuring integration of best practice and strategic guidance in every project.

You will have the freedom to drive forward initiatives, collaborate with key stakeholders, and play a pivotal role in supporting the continued growth of our Transport Planning capabilities.

  • Spearhead and deliver complex transport planning projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.
  • Provide strategic transport advice on assessments, master planning, policy, and sustainable travel solutions.
  • Oversee technical reporting including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Construction Traffic Management Plans, and EIA inputs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop integrated transport strategies.
  • Manage and mentor transport planners, supporting their development and ensuring delivery excellence.
  • Contribute to business development through proposal writing, client relationship building, and opportunity identification.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards, and internal quality assurance.
  • Champion innovation and stay current with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in transport planning.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, or related field (postgraduate qualification desirable).
  • CIHT, TPS, ICE.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience leading transport planning projects across multiple sectors.
  • Experience on the Scotland Excel Framework would be beneficial.
  • Strong background in transport modelling, policy, and assessments.
  • Proficiency in relevant tools such as GIS, CAD, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign is a plus.
  • Skilled in technical reporting, project management, and public consultations.
  • Knowledge in areas such as Active Travel, Bus Priority, LCWIPs, Public Realm, and Urban Design would be an advantage.
