This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Geotechnical Engineer to join BakerHicks, working within an award-winning team delivering across sectors including power distribution, rail, highways and defence. Based in our London office, this role offers the chance to lead and grow a new regional team, shaping our presence in the South. You will be joining a dynamic and collaborative team that genuinely values fresh thinking and innovation. We are looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer operating at, or ready to step into, Associate level, with a strong background in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering within a design consultancy environment. You will bring strong technical expertise across core ground engineering disciplines, including desk studies, ground investigation specification, technical reporting, ground modelling, earthworks and foundation design. Commercial awareness and the ability to win and secure work will also be key.

Our projects span the full breadth of the UK, from Shetland to Devon, offering exposure to a diverse range of ground conditions and engineering challenges rather than being confined to a single geological setting.

  • Act as lead in our London office with a view to grow a new team in the southern region
  • Act as technical lead and reviewer for geotechnical work across a range of project sizes in sectors including rail, power, defence, aviation, public sector and life sciences
  • Lead the delivery of ground engineering design packages across multiple projects as part of single and multidisciplinary teams, from concept through to completion

Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering, with an MSc in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering. Technically competent across all aspects of ground engineering design and coordination - working within a design consultancy is key. Experience reviewing and approving key technical outputs including desk studies, ground investigations, ground models, mining risk assessments, Geotechnical Interpretive Reports, slope stability design, foundation design, retaining wall design, geotechnical design reports and earthworks specifications. Experience delivering projects across relevant sectors. Proven track record of successful project delivery and client satisfaction. Strong IT skills, including geotechnical design software such as GEO5. Willingness to travel occasionally for site work within the UK. Eligible or already in possession of UK Security Clearance.
