Baker Tilly US, a member of Baker Tilly International, is seeking a Managing Director to lead our Forensic, Litigation & Valuation practice.

Job Description

As a Managing Director, you will display leadership skills to be or be on track to become a Partner, focusing on expanding Baker Tilly’s global presence, offering industry expertise, and generating new business opportunities.

The Managing Director is responsible for multiple technically specialized and complex engagements or projects, effectively executing client service, staff development, practice development, administrative operations, leadership, working relationships, quality control, and other responsibilities specific to the group or function.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gather information about subject businesses as necessary to complete assigned engagements, including on-site visits where needed.
  • Lead a team in analyzing data and preparing calculations and reports.
  • Provide valuable financial insight and clarity to clients during all engagement stages, from case theory development through expert witness testimony.
  • Effectively prepare and handle meetings and calls with clients and opposing parties, maintaining active communication to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, meet deadlines, and lead change efforts.
  • Delegate and supervise project assignments to the appropriate staff level.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and retain professional and support staff, and mentor staff for career development.
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail, striving for error‑free work product and communication.
  • Assist Principals with strategic planning across relevant business lines.
  • Directly manage Accounts Receivable and Work in Progress.

Business Development (BD)

  • Independently and jointly with global colleagues grow existing practice areas and promote the firm’s capabilities.
  • Develop and execute clear client development plans, considering global contacts.
  • Collaborate on proposals and BD calls.
  • Write articles for industry, firm, and other publications.
  • Work with Partners to achieve the overall strategic plan for the team.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations, client functions, events, and lunches; conduct presentations and seminars.
  • Maintain consistent involvement in industry functions and involve staff.
  • Stay current with personnel/employment changes among existing and prospective clients.
  • Keep knowledge up‑to‑date on relevant industry news and trends.

General

  • Act with the highest professional ethics and comply with relevant professional standards and practices.
  • Take direction from Principals and keep them current on all files.
  • Minimize firm risk on projects and proposals.
  • Assist in office administration requirements and practices.
  • Maximize utilization of self and other staff by seeking or outsourcing work within Baker Tilly when appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a specialized field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience; previous industry and consulting experience highly preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory responsibilities highly preferred.
  • Chartered Accountant required.
  • Maintain certification(s) for applicable area of work (e.g., ACA/FCA, ACCA/FCCA).
  • Demonstrated management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management, communication skills, and high proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Excellent project management skills with proven success leading projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to timely completion of high‑quality projects.
  • Flexibility to travel for client meetings and work outside normal business hours due to client demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forensic skills in Warranty and Indemnity post‑transaction closing disputes.
  • Business Valuation skills in disputes.
  • Testifying expert witness experience.
