Our tax practice expertly covers all aspects of tax planning and transactions, dispute resolution (both administrative and litigation), tax policy, transfer pricing, indirect taxes and wealth management tax advice and planning.

Baker McKenzie seeks a mid-level private capital associate to join its tax practice to be located in either its New York or Miami office. In this role, you will be advising a diverse range of clients on the structuring of domestic and cross-border investments in various asset classes, private investment offerings, advising on FIRPTA, trust and fiduciary and mergers and acquisitions, corporate and partnership re-organisations and the drafting and negotiation of related contracts, investment documents and trust and fiduciary instruments. You will also be drafting memoranda and opinions on the most current, complex US tax issues.

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of relevant tax experience in some of the following areas:

  • Real estate taxation (including FIRPTA, REITs, qualified opportunity zones and 1031 like-kind exchanges)
  • Estate planning and holding structures
  • Private equity (including fund formation, carried interest structures and M&A)
  • Partnership tax and joint ventures
  • Energy (including tax credit monetisation transactions)
  • Family office structuring and related issues

The candidate must enjoy operating in a dynamic environment and be able to work with colleagues in different practice groups and countries. In addition, the successful candidate must enjoy learning and embracing new, developing areas of the tax law in which there is limited formal guidance. Top academic credentials are a prerequisite; an LLM in taxation is not required but may be favourably considered.

Applicants must be admitted to and a member in good standing of the New York or Florida Bar or eligible to waive in or in the case of Florida ready to sit the Florida bar. Please include a cover letter, transcripts, and resume with your application.

This position is bonus eligible and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) based on number of hours worked. The US base compensation for this position is expected to be $260,000 to $365,000 (annually) if located in an office in the state of New York. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
