You will ensure designs meet company standards and engineering competence requirements while providing leadership in executing business goals, programs, and processes. You will coordinate design teams, establish drafting processes, and develop standardized templates, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials using established or newly developed design tools.

As a Lead Designer - CAD, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and organizing design activities with clear schedules, priorities, and corrective actions when progress falls below plan.
  • Generating mechanical designs from engineering specifications and verifying designs against manufacturing and assembly practices, including tolerance studies and fit‑for‑function validation.
  • Following Design Process Management (DPM) processes and ensuring compliance with drawing standards.
  • Defining and managing design deliverables to meet contractual and third‑party requirements.
  • Interpreting engineering requirements and defining dimensions and tolerances to meet fit, form, and function criteria.
  • Securing and coordinating design resources in collaboration with engineers and monitoring progress to completion.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating hazards, ensuring designs meet HSE requirements and incorporate lessons learned.
  • Creating layout, detail, and assembly designs addressing safety, environmental, and structural considerations.
  • Driving continuous improvement through risk reduction, cost reduction, and performance enhancement initiatives.
  • Creating work packs, reviewing drawings, developing test procedures, and leading small design teams.
  • Producing layout, detail, fabrication, and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Developing 3D models and drawings suitable for manufacture using company parametric practices.
  • Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials in documentation systems for engineering approval.
  • Supporting design verification activities, including tolerance analysis, design reviews, manufacturability, and basic calculations.
  • Creating basic FAT procedures, prototype test procedures, and documenting results for approval.
  • Ensuring all design documentation is correctly archived within electronic document management systems.
  • Applying design‑for‑manufacture principles for machining, welding, and fabrication processes.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold a BSc, HNC, or HND in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent vocational qualification with significant relevant experience.
  • Be conscientious, flexible, versatile, and determined.
  • Communicate assertively and positively.
  • Be fluent in English (additional local languages desirable).
  • Work effectively within teams and adapt to changing work demands.
  • Have demonstrable experience using modern 2D/3D CAD tools and drafting standards.
  • Be familiar with materials, welding, heat treatment, and elastomers.
  • Understand relevant industry standards, codes, and design methodologies.
  • Be proficient with design and documentation software, including PDM systems.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma, Mathcad, or similar engineering tools is desirable.

This is a full‑time design leadership role involving close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams. Work priorities may vary based on project schedules and business needs.
