The Baker Hughes Internship is designed to enable students either pursuing a Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree or recently graduated to gain hands‑on work experience as the foundation of their professional lives. The internship offers exciting opportunities working within the Wireline sector of Baker Hughes at the UK Farnborough location, focusing on modelling, simulating and analysing data from sensor technologies for downhole tools.
This internship is a core member of a motivated small team working closely with scientists, electronic, mechanical and software engineers to develop the next generation of downhole tools. The role will be focused on modelling, simulating and analysing data from a range of sensor technologies, rock formation imaging and inspecting the integrity of metal tubulars used within an oil and gas well. The results will be used to optimise sensor design, drive the direction of experimentation and further our understanding of sensor response in varying conditions.

Key Qualification / Experience required:
- Working towards BEng / MEng in Physics, Maths or an Engineering degree
- Academic Qualifications – A or A* at A-level (or equivalent) including Maths and/or Physics
- For graduates, a 2:1 or higher in a Physics, Maths or a Mechanical/Aero Engineering degree
- Prior experience in MATLAB, ANSYS and/or COMSOL Multiphysics is desirable
- Prior experience with 3D CAD tools is useful
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Highly motivated, self‑starting approach with a desire to learn new skills
- Ability to legally work in the country you are applying for, without company sponsorship or time restriction
