As a Principal Structural Engineer at Baker Hicks, you'll play a leading role in delivering complex engineering projects across sectors including power, defence, life sciences and the public sector.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of structural design delivery, mentor engineers, influence technical excellence, contribute to winning new work, and support the ongoing growth of our Civil & Structural team.

You'll work within multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborating with clients and colleagues to deliver high-quality engineering solutions while maintaining a strong focus on safety, innovation, commercial performance and client satisfaction.

  • What you’ll be doing
  • Leading the delivery of structural and civil engineering design across projects of varying size and complexity
  • Managing project programmes, budgets, resources and change control
  • Acting as a technical authority on structural and civil engineering design
  • Carrying out technical reviews and providing guidance to project teams
  • Preparing tenders, fee estimates and technical proposals
  • Supporting bidding activities and contributing to successful work-winning opportunities
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships to identify future project opportunities
  • Supporting business development initiatives and contributing to the growth of the Civil & Structural team in Scotland
  • Monitoring project performance and reporting to senior leadership
  • Supporting the delivery of safe, sustainable and innovative engineering solutions
  • Mentoring, coaching and developing junior engineers
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve successful project outcomes
  • Supporting the continued growth and capability of the Civil & Structural team

What we're looking for

  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (CEng MICE or MIStruct E)
  • Significant post-chartership experience within a consultancy, design or engineering environment
  • Proven experience leading projects and managing engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of current civil and structural design codes, standards and best practice
  • Experience delivering projects within sectors such as power, defence, life sciences, public sector or major infrastructure environments
  • Experience contributing to bid submissions, tender preparation and client development activities
  • Strong commercial awareness, including budget management and change control
  • Experience working within integrated multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety requirements
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Current SC clearance or the ability to obtain clearance
  • SER Certified advantageous
