United Kingdom Transmission & Distribution sector growing rapidly. Baker Hicks has delivered major projects across the UK and is seeking a Senior Electrical (P&C) Engineer to drive the design and production of substation protection and control schemes for HV and EHV projects (132kV‐400kV).
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and review of substation protection and control schemes, ensuring compliance with National Grid, SSEN and SPT technical specifications.
- Mentor junior engineers and oversee the quality of design drawings and technical documents.
- Guarantee that designs meet applicable standards and client specifications.
- Protection Systems Design
- Develop differential, distance, overcurrent, and busbar protection schemes.
- Prepare and review protection coordination studies and relay settings.
- Control & SCADA Systems Design
- Design substation control systems (SCADA, RTUs, automation) using IEC 61850 or DNP3 protocols.
- Develop control logic and interlocking schemes.
- Drawing & Documentation
- Produce and review Key Line Diagrams (KLDs), protection schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
- Prepare design reports, specifications, and commissioning procedures.
- Project Delivery
- Coordinate with civil, structural and other substation disciplines.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard sessions, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Support construction, installation and commissioning phases as required.
- Stakeholder Interaction
- Interface with utilities, contractors, vendors and project management teams.
- Lead client meetings to present designs and provide technical justification.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to health & safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Participate in internal and external audits and reviews.
Qualifications
- BEng/MSc in Electrical Engineering with a Power/HV background (or equivalent).
- Experience with MathCAD, ETAP, Siemens Digis, S1 Agile, Enervista GE and AutoCAD.
- Proficient with client specifications: National Grid, SSEN, Scottish Power, UKPN, NGED, SPENW, etc.
- Working knowledge of CDAE accreditation is desirable but not essential.
- Working toward CEng status is beneficial, though not required.
