You will be joining a dynamic and collaborative team that genuinely values fresh thinking and innovation. There is a strong sense of community across the wider group, with regular opportunities to connect beyond project work.

We are looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer operating at, or ready to step into, Associate level (line management level, not entry), with a strong background in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering within a design consultancy environment. You will be confident working autonomously from the outset, with the vision and drive to build and develop a high‑performing team around you. You will bring strong technical expertise across core ground engineering disciplines, including desk studies, ground investigation specification, technical reporting, ground modelling, earthworks and foundation design. Commercial awareness and the ability to win and secure work will also be key.

Our projects span the full breadth of the UK, from Shetland to Devon, offering exposure to a diverse range of ground conditions and engineering challenges rather than being confined to a single geological setting. The role requires a UK Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain it.

Objectives
  • Act as lead in our London office with a view to grow a new team in the southern region
  • Act as technical lead and reviewer for geotechnical work across a range of project sizes in sectors including rail, power, defence, aviation, public sector and life sciences
  • Lead the delivery of ground engineering design packages across multiple projects as part of single and multidisciplinary teams, from concept through to completion
  • Contribute to the development and mentoring of junior staff
Skills and Experience
  • Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering, with an MSc in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Chartered Member of an appropriate body such as the Geological Society, ICE or IMMM
  • Technically competent across all aspects of ground engineering design and coordination – working within a design consultancy in the UK on UK based projects is key
  • Extensive experience reviewing and approving key technical outputs including desk studies, ground investigations, ground models, mining risk assessments, Geotechnical Interpretive Reports, slope stability design, foundation design, retaining wall design, geotechnical design reports and earthworks specifications
  • Full understanding of assurance and sign off requirements
  • Up to date with current standards and best practice
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery and client satisfaction
  • Strong experience working within multidisciplinary design teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, including geotechnical design software such as GEO5
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site work within the UK
  • Eligible or already in possession of UK Security Clearance
Benefits
  • Company car or cash allowance
  • Up to 6% matched contributory pension plan
  • 25 days annual leave plus ability to buy additional leave
  • Discount scheme (including gym membership, mobile phones etc)
  • Family friendly policies
  • Employee assistance
