We have an exciting role available to join a leading organisation based in York. This is a temporary contract to cover a busy period, and will initially be until the middle of August 2026, start date is immediate.
The purpose of the role: Responsible for leading the planning and delivery of communications activity for a defined portfolio of work. Operating as one of a team of Communications Managers/Senior Comms Officers, the post holder will translate organisational and communications strategies into effective delivery across campaigns, channels and stakeholders helping to support and manage more junior officers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement communication strategies and campaigns
- Draft and edit press releases, speeches, newsletters, reports, and digital content
- Manage relationships with media outlets, journalists, and external stakeholders
- Oversee internal communications to employees and leadership teams
- Coordinate public relations activities and events
- Monitor media coverage and prepare performance reports
- Manage social media and digital communication channels
- Support crisis and reputation management efforts
- Ensure brand consistency across all communications
- Brief senior leadership on communication risks and opportunities
- Mentor or supervise communications officers, coordinators, or interns
- Collaborate with marketing, HR, policy, and leadership teams
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
- Previous experience in communications or PR experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong media relations and stakeholder management experience
- Experience managing communication campaigns and projects
- Proficiency with digital communication tools and social media platforms
Experience needed: Proven experience delivering senior-level communications, including media handling and the development of communications plans, is essential. Prior experience working within a government or other political environment is also essential.
Hourly rate of pay is £26.06 (£50k equivalent)
