A well-known, private equity-backed telecommunications business is recruiting a Director of Risk & Compliance.
This is a high-profile leadership position reporting directly to the CFO, with responsibility for setting and leading the risk and compliance agenda across the organisation.
The business is a significant provider of fibre broadband services operating within a complex, regulated and rapidly changing market.
It is seeking an experienced telecommunications risk and compliance leader who can ensure the function delivers genuine operational and commercial value.
Key responsibilities include
- Owning enterprise-wide risk oversight and ensuring the organisation identifies and prioritises its most significant operational, legal, regulatory, financial and reputational exposures.
You will work with senior leaders to develop proportionate mitigation plans, establish clear ownership and ensure agreed actions are delivered.
- Defining and embedding risk appetite and tolerance, improving risk reporting and ensuring the Board and Executive Leadership Team have a clear understanding of principal risks and material compliance gaps.
You will also strengthen business continuity and crisis-management arrangements.
- Leading a pragmatic, business-enabling compliance programme, monitoring regulatory developments and ensuring the organisation responds appropriately.
You will assess significant systems, process and organisational changes to ensure regulatory requirements are considered before implementation.
- Overseeing compliance reviews and assurance activity, ensuring findings result in effective corrective action.
You will establish meaningful performance measures and provide clear, data-led reporting on compliance, emerging issues and material exposures.
- Ensuring policies are relevant, clearly communicated and embedded across the organisation.
You will deliver effective training, promote first-line ownership and create a culture in which colleagues understand their responsibilities and leaders are held accountable.
The successful candidate will have operated in a senior risk and compliance leadership role within the telecommunications sector and possess a strong understanding of the regulatory environment affecting a UK telecommunications provider.
You will have experience engaging with regulators, industry bodies, senior executives and Boards, together with a track record of leading teams and delivering cultural or organisational change.
You will combine strategic judgement with a practical, commercially minded approach, identifying the issues that matter most and ensuring proportionate action is taken.
Professional qualifications in risk or compliance would be advantageous, although relevant telecommunications expertise, leadership capability and commercial judgement are more important.
