Join a growing conveyancing team where manageable caseloads and proper support matter. Baker Ashley Solicitors is a modern and growing law firm, and following continued growth in our residential conveyancing department, we are looking for an experienced Residential Conveyancer to join our team.
We believe good conveyancers do their best work when they have the time, support and autonomy to look after their clients properly. That's why our model is built around controlled caseloads, dedicated Legal Assistant support and one lawyer taking responsibility for each transaction from instruction through to completion.
If you enjoy running your own caseload but don't want to work in a high-volume environment where quality and client service are sacrificed for file numbers, we'd like to hear from you.
What makes the role different
- A genuinely manageable caseload: Our experienced conveyancers will typically have a maximum caseload of approximately 70 live matters, allowing you to remain in control of your workload and provide a proactive service to your clients.
- Your own dedicated Legal Assistant: You’ll have the support of an experienced, full‑time Legal Assistant, allowing you to focus more of your time on the legal work that requires your expertise.
- A strong and established pipeline of work: We have established relationships with estate agents and professional introducers across England and Wales, alongside our direct client work. You won’t be expected to generate your own caseload.
- Flexible ways of working: Our head office is in Pontypridd, South Wales, and we are happy to consider office‑based, hybrid or remote working arrangements for the right candidate.
The role
You’ll independently manage a varied residential conveyancing caseload from instruction through to completion, including:
- Freehold and leasehold sales and purchases
- Remortgages and transfers of equity
- New‑build transactions
- Shared ownership matters
Your responsibilities will include reviewing titles and contracts, raising and responding to enquiries, reviewing searches and mortgage offers, reporting to clients and lenders, managing exchange and completion, and ensuring your files meet AML, CQS, lender and regulatory requirements.
You’ll communicate proactively with clients, estate agents, brokers, lenders and other solicitors throughout each transaction, supported by your Legal Assistant and the wider conveyancing team.
About you
We're primarily interested in finding an experienced and capable conveyancer, rather than recruiting solely on the basis of professional title. You may be a Solicitor, Licensed Conveyancer, CILEx Lawyer / Legal Executive, or an experienced residential conveyancer with equivalent practical experience.
Ideally, you'll have:
- At least three years' residential conveyancing experience
- Experience independently managing your own caseload
- Strong freehold and leasehold experience
- Excellent knowledge of residential conveyancing practice in England and Wales
- Strong organisational and file‑management skills
- Excellent communication and client‑care skills
- A proactive approach to progressing transactions
- Experience with new‑build or shared ownership transactions would be advantageous but isn't essential.
What we offer
- Controlled caseloads – typically capped at approximately 70 live matters
- Dedicated full-time experienced Legal Assistant
- Competitive salary depending on experience
- Performance‑related bonus scheme
- Remote and hybrid working options
- Flexible working arrangements
- 26 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Free residential conveyancing for your own personal transactions
- Professional development and training support
- Modern case‑management technology and online client portal
- Strong and consistent pipeline of residential conveyancing work
- Genuine autonomy over the management of your caseload
