This Engineering Checker role offers an experienced mechanical engineer the chance to take ownership of technical quality and standards within a busy engineering environment. It’s a hands-on position where your expertise will directly influence the accuracy, consistency and manufacturability of engineering output.
Working four days per week, fully office-based in Bolton, you’ll act as the final technical gatekeeper for drawings, models and documentation before they move into production or out to customers. The focus is clear: eliminate drawing errors, reduce NCRs and raise the overall quality bar across the department.
What you’ll be doing:
- Checking and approving 2D drawings, 3D models, BOMs and engineering documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with standards
- Reviewing tolerance stack-ups and GD&T to ensure products remain functional and certifiable
- Owning drawing standards, driving consistency and updating standards where improvements are required
- Ensuring full adherence to ISO 9001 procedures and maintaining accurate checking logs
- Supporting the resolution of NCRs and identifying repeat design issues
- Providing constructive technical feedback to design engineers to improve output quality
- Collaborating closely with engineering leadership and supporting tender activity where needed
What you’ll bring:
- A strong mechanical engineering background within industrial sheet metal or steel fabrication environments
- Either:
- HNC/HND with extensive hands-on industry experience
- OR a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering with solid post-graduate experience
- Proven experience authoring or checking engineering drawings in a mechanical design setting
- Confident use of 2D and 3D CAD tools
- Strong working knowledge of:
- BS 8888
- GD&T, limits & fits, datum systems and surface finish specification
- Design for Manufacture principles
- A detail-driven mindset with the confidence to challenge and improve standards
