Role and Responsibilities
Product Development Chemist: The Impact You\\\’ll Have On The Organization and World
- Deliver hands-on laboratory-based development and technical service support, driving innovation and enhancing product performance across Bakelite\\\’s European resins portfolio.
- Play a key role in the development, initial manufacture, and commercialization of new and modified products, ensuring smooth market introduction and alignment with business strategy.
- Support production troubleshooting and customer complaint resolution, contributing to continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain expert knowledge of environmental, regulatory, and quality standards within the forest products sector, ensuring product development aligned with evolving compliance requirements.
- Represent Bakelite at trade and industry associations, fostering external partnerships and aligning technical developments with broader commercial goals.

In this role, you\\\’ll be located in a dynamic industrial location nestled in the heart of Scotland.
As part of the FPD EU team, you\\\’ll work on-site at a key Bakelite facility driving sustainability and safety in a setting that values local collaboration and global impact. You\\\’ll be part of a dedicated team in a close-knit community, with access to beautiful Scottish landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Does a Typical Day Look Like?
Here are your primary responsibilities:
- Conduct direct, hands-on technical service and product development work in the lab to support the European resins business.
- Assist with the development, initial manufacture, and commercialization of new or modified resin products.
- Support production operations by troubleshooting issues and contributing to development projects and customer complaint resolution.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technologies, regulatory requirements, and environmental and quality standards relevant to the forest products sector.
- Provide off-site technical support at customer, supplier, or toll manufacturer locations when needed.
- Represent Bakelite at trade or industry associations, aligned with business strategy and approved by line management.
- Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and contributing to continuous improvement in HS&E standards.
What is Needed to be Successful in this Role
(Required Skills/Abilities)
- Degree level qualification in chemistry, wood science and/or forest products industries (or other comparable manufacturing industries).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory-based product development.
