Position Overview
The position is responsible for managing the programs, planning and execution of varied high value process safety tasks (Process Hazard Analysis, Process Safety Management tasks etc.) across the European network of Bakelite Synthetics sites. The Process Safety Leader Europe will act as a program leader and technical expert, providing specific guidance on technical safety matters across the region. The position is part of the engineering team and the postholder collaborates with the other groups in the operations organization, including site leaders, other process and safety engineering resources and EHS representatives.
The role requires frequent travel to UK and mainland Europe sites
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for the following key activities across the European grid:
Process Safety Management
Own and ensure appropriate execution of regulatory and Bakelite Synthetics PSM compliance initiatives.
Manage implementation of Bakelite Synthetics PSM and technical standards.
Track and evaluate PSM metrics (both leading and lagging indicators) to identify trends and drive improvement plans.
Develop PSM audit plan and lead selected audits
Support sites in their development of SEVESO / CoMAH safety reports and provide technical guidance.
Technical Standards
Participate in the development of Bakelite process technical standards (with a potential ownership role for selected global standards), and oversee the implementation of the standards across the European sites.
Process Hazard Analysis
Provide expertise in PHA application and training of associates, manage the PHA program and assist in carrying out selected PHAs within the European organization.
Incident Investigation
Analyse findings and support investigation for process safety and near miss incidents to identify common issues and facilitate consistency in recommendations and corrective actions regionally & globally. Postholder would manage the program to assure implementation of process safety corrective actions.
Process Safety Developments
Monitor developing process safety regulations to ensure Bakelite is proactive in analysing potential impact at our sites and planning implementation of relevant new regulations. Engage with industry bodies to identify and implement best practise in Process Safety Management
Property Loss Insurance
Oversee and support property insurance visits and program for managing insurer recommendations; prioritise recommendations for close out and produce multi-year investment plan for loss prevention Within the role, there are potential future development opportunities for the postholder to assume global responsibilities for programs and technical standards ownership
Education And Skill Requirements
- Degree qualified in chemical/process engineering or other relevant engineering or scientific subject.
- Fluent in english
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective communication with others for whom English is their second language
- Ability to work within a matrixed organisation and remotely with site teams.
- Willing to travel internationally as needed
Experience in:
- Process Safety Management role within the chemical industry or other process industries with minimum 5 years, and preferable 10 years of experience.
- Preference also given to candidates with experience working with / at Seveso/CoMAH installations.
