Avalon are proud to be partnering with the team at whg in their acquisition of a new Assistant Director of Housing who will be responsible for overseeing Allocations, Income Management, and Customer Services.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated senior leader in housing to join the team as the Assistant Director of Housing. In this full-time, permanent role, you will lead our Customer Services, Allocations, and Income Services teams. You\\\’ll be responsible for ensuring that all services meet legal and regulatory requirements, achieve key performance indicators, and drive continuous improvement. You will also be expected to collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners to achieve the goals of whg.
Responsibilities
- Acting as a senior leader within the Housing Directorate, supporting the Director of Housing and working with the Assistant Director of Housing to ensure services are aligned.
- Leading the strategic approach to Income Collection, Money Advice, Allocations, and Customer Services.
- Driving a forward-thinking approach to customer contact, income collection, and the allocation of empty homes.
- Leading the implementation of key strategic business change initiatives and using data to manage this change.
- Managing resources effectively and flexing them between and within teams as needed.
- Being accountable for meeting all targets and proactively planning a response to external factors that could impact performance.
Salary information
- Job Title: Assistant Director of Housing
- Salary: £80,876 per annum.
- Contract: Full-time, permanent, 37 hours per week.
- Benefits: 27 days of annual leave (plus Christmas shutdown), a defined benefit pension scheme, a health cash plan, and a range of shopping and leisure discounts.

Requirements
- A degree-level qualification or significant relevant experience managing a housing team at a senior level.
- A Level 5 certificate in Housing or equivalent.
- Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements for housing management.
- A proven track record of delivering value for money and implementing successful change and efficiency programmes in the housing sector.
- Strong leadership, influencing, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
- The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively.
