We are looking for a Quality Control Inspector to join our vibrant team.

To lead the delivery of mechanical and electrical quality control inspections across a range of residential and mixed‑use developments.

This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with technical standards, managing reporting outputs, and maintaining strong communication with clients and project teams.

The MEP QCI is expected to take full ownership of allocated projects and contribute to the successful delivery of MEP quality assurance services.

Joining an existing team as a Quality Control Inspector MEP (Clerk of Works) is responsible for monitoring construction quality on site, ensuring that all works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and statutory requirements.

The role acts as the client's on‑site representative, providing impartial advice, documenting progress, and identifying issues before they become costly defects.

Working on various projects across Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and deliver MEP quality control inspections, ensuring compliance with specifications, regulations (e. g., BS 7671, CIBSE), and best practices.
  • Produce high‑quality, detailed inspection reports that clearly communicate findings, actions, and progress related to MEP systems.
  • Maintain and manage MEP defect trackers, ensuring timely updates, clear categorisation, and follow‑up with relevant parties.
  • Review technical submittals, commissioning plans, and O&M documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Witness and validate commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested and documented in accordance with project requirements.
  • Represent Baily Garner LLP in site progress meetings, presenting MEP updates and contributing to technical discussions.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and consultants to resolve MEP‑related issues and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively flag risks or delays that may impact MEP quality or delivery.
  • Identify when additional resource or support is required and escalate appropriately to ensure continuity of service.
  • Support Senior and Principal MEP QCIs on complex or high‑risk projects as needed.
  • Participate in snagging, pre‑handover, and end‑of‑defects inspections for MEP systems.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to all communications, including emails, phone calls, and meeting requests.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and accurate written and verbal communication with clients, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Present confidently and competently in meetings, adapting communication style to suit technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Ensure all reporting and correspondence reflects the high standards and reputation of Baily Garner LLP.
  • Ideal Candidate
  • Working in live environments, under NDAs, subject to vetting.
  • Relevant technical qualification (e. g., HNC, HND, NVQ Level 4 or above) in building services, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in MEP construction or quality control inspection roles.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, commissioning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in defect tracking, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Actively working toward or already enrolled in a professional accreditation pathway (e. g., CIBSE, IET).
