The UK Fund Services Department is responsible for financial accounting, tax computations and regulatory reporting for our UK open-ended investment funds. The department is also responsible for transfer agency service for the UK open-ended investment funds, which incorporates dealing in the funds and maintenance of the share register. The department is also responsible for the legal and regulatory obligations of Baillie Gifford & Co Ltd as the authorised corporate director and alternative investment fund manager for the UK open-ended investment funds.

To provide accounting and taxation services to the Collective Investment Schemes within the UK Fund Service department.

We are recruiting an accountant for our UK Fund Accounting team. The team is responsible for daily pricing and financial reporting for our UK open-ended funds, and we interact with the wider business on a range of operational developments requiring technical expertise. We hold ourselves to the highest standard of client service and value-add in all we do. The role has broad responsibilities at each stage of our funds’ accounting cycles. You will be preparing and managing the delivery of the funds’ accounts, with reporting dates falling throughout the year, as well as providing input on daily Fair Value Pricing decisions, client reporting and calculating key regulatory data points for the funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage the delivery of year end and interim financial statements for our UK Funds, which have various period end dates across the calendar year.
  • Collate information on stocks and global markets for daily Fair Value Pricing Group meetings.
  • Calculate key data points for our UK funds, including, but not limited to, distribution rates, yields, ongoing charges, and amortisation profiles.
  • Conduct detailed monthly reviews of our funds’ data, including income recorded, withholding taxes charged and outstanding debtor and creditor positions.
  • Prepare income forecasts for our UK Funds.
  • Complete annual tax returns.
  • Investigate exceptions in month end reconciliations for client reporting.
  • Assist in the system set-up of new funds and opening new custody accounts, working closely with various internal departments.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance on projects within the department.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge relating to UK Funds including changes to Baillie Gifford funds and wider industry updates.
  • Adhere to the Baillie Gifford Data Management/Security policies.

Qualifications:

Exam Qualified or Qualified Accountant (ICAS, ACCA or equivalent).

Your knowledge and experience:

  • Financial services industry accounting experience (preferred).
  • Experience preparing financial statements, tax computations and regulatory reporting, with a strong understanding of relevant accounting principles and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience working with complex financial datasets, performing reconciliations and investigating exceptions.
  • Experience of explaining complex concepts, answering questions and sharing knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet competing deadlines.
