Whatever your background, if you are curious about the world, enjoy building relationships, and are a great communicator, we want to hear from you. No prior financial services experience is required, just a genuine passion for learning new things.
What does Baillie Gifford do? Baillie Gifford is an investment management firm that has remained an independent private partnership for over 100 years. As long-term investors, our investment philosophy is focused on growth to deliver the best returns for our clients.
Each year, we recruit three to four individuals to the programme. Upon successful completion of the programme you will secure a permanent client relationship manager or investment specialist role.
Our client managers play a pivotal role within our Firm, embodying our shared belief that our clients come first. Representing the business, they are responsible for meeting clients' needs across a range of jurisdictions and winning new business. There are two interdependent client-facing roles: Client Relationship Manager and Investment Specialist.
About the programme: This two-year programme offers you the chance to leverage your existing skills while learning new ones. Our goal is to develop the next generation of highly talented client contacts who understand what sets Baillie Gifford apart in the investment industry. We will support you to build an understanding of fund management and its role in society, and to talk confidently about our firm, including our investment strategy processes and culture.
Mentorship and training: You will be given a mentor to help guide your development, along with a variety of ongoing training sessions, such as mock client meetings, practice pitches, and presentations on the firm. As you learn, you will start to assume responsibility for supporting clients and participate in client meetings, with the occasional requirement to travel. We will support you to pass the Investment Management Certificate and subsequently a further relevant qualification within five years.
Placements: The programme will start with foundational learning to introduce you to our business, our culture and our philosophy. You will then undertake two ten-month placements in our client contact teams, one in a relationship team and one in an investment specialist team. During these placements, you will gain exposure to a variety of our clients, fund strategies and ways of working. At the end of the two-year programme, we will aim to place you with a team in either a relationship manager or investment specialist role.
Learning and development: On completion of the programme, we will encourage you to continue to develop, whether that is attending a structured training course, signing up for a webinar or spending time in another team. If you have the ambition and talent, you could work towards becoming a director, or even a partner in the firm.
