We are looking for a talented individual who can help Bagnalls to increase the numbers of trained apprentices across our business. You should be a motivated and experienced Painter and Decorator with experience of training apprentices and a passion for developing their skills.

About Us

Bagnalls is a trusted, family-owned, national painting contractor, established in 1875, with 14 branches across the UK. The Role:

The role involves the delivery of teaching technical painting and decorating skills to apprentices which will allow them to undertake their site role to the highest standard. You must therefore be confident in your own craft skills and be able to explain these in a constructive way. You will be teaching a syllabus created in conjunction with Doncaster College which includes everything from wallpapering and cutting in to colour wheel and hazard perception. This is a key role within the company and is important to helping Bagnalls create a pathway of highly skilled qualified painters.

Please note: the role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.

You:

You will be a responsible role model that apprentices can look up to whilst at the Academy. We ask that you have the following:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working on a range of commercial painting and decorating contracts including highly decorative work
  • Experience of working with apprentices
  • Ability to give constructive feedback sensitively and patiently
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good verbal communication skills including the ability to explain difficult concepts
  • Knowledge of health and safety within the painting and decorating industry, including producing risk assessments and method statements and implementing these on site
  • Ability to show initiative
  • Helpful and flexible approach to day-to-day tasks
  • Willingness and ability to work independently and to learn new skills quickly
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Word
  • Full driving licence

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities when working with under 18s
  • Experience of painting and decorating and/or paper hanging competitions
  • Teaching or training qualifications and/or experience
