They are now looking for an Export / Import Manager to take ownership of this critical function, lead a small team and ensure the smooth movement of specialist products across international markets.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will combine technical expertise, compliance knowledge and commercial awareness to keep operations running seamlessly while spotting opportunities to grow export activity. It would suit someone already managing a team, or an experienced senior coordinator ready to step up into a management role.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic oversight of the Export/Import department, ensuring shipments move efficiently, compliantly and on time across global markets. Key responsibilities include:
- Taking legal responsibility for Dangerous Goods compliance, including DGSA reporting.
- Keeping ahead of changing import/export legislation and embedding this into company processes.
- Managing customer orders, enquiries and quotations via Sage maintaining accurate pricing.
- Maintaining commodity codes and liaising with suppliers to ensure correct classification.
- Creating worldwide shipping documentation using Formwise.
- Coordinating and organising all paperwork for international imports and exports.
- Finalising certificates of shipment and associated regulatory documentation.
- Arranging shipments for 2 companies product ranges globally.
- Supporting and training colleagues across the wider import/export function.
- Building strong relationships with suppliers and distributors.
- Identifying and helping generate new export sales opportunities.
- Attending UK and international exhibitions to support business development.
- Producing a monthly operational report for the Managing Director.
Team Leadership
You’ll directly manage a small team of Import/Export Coordinators, providing guidance, structure and development while ensuring high standards of accuracy, compliance and customer service.
What They’re Looking For
- At least 5 years experience in an Import/Export role.
- Strong knowledge of international shipping processes; Dangerous Goods experience highly desirable.
- Confident with Microsoft Excel; experience with Sage or Formwise would be advantageous.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A proactive problem-solver who can take ownership and work independently.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Ability to maintain accurate electronic and physical records.
- Business-related degree or additional languages would be a bonus (not essential).
- Driving licence preferred.
