What you'll be doing:
- Designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMIs.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Developing and maintaining control logic, wiring diagrams, and documentation for automation projects.
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving control system issues to minimize downtime.
- Performing system testing, validation, and calibration to meet operational and safety standards.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives by analysing system data and recommending enhancements.
- Providing technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.
- Managing vendor relationships and overseeing installation and integration of control hardware and software.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in industrial automation.
Your skills and experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation, or a related field, or time served apprenticeship via an approved body or organisation with experience.
- Proven experience in industrial control system design, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with standard PLC and safety PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric).
- Familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61508/61511, EN ISO 13849-1, ISA/IEC 62443, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with SIL proof tests in line with IEC 61508/61511.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to work on-site and occasionally outside regular business hours if needed.
- Good standard of PC literacy MS Office.

The Special Projects team:
You will be appointed to a newly established project team, assuming leadership responsibility for the delivery of individual work packages. Reporting directly to the Senior Maintenance Engineer, you will be accountable for ensuring the rigorous derivation and execution of the programme to achieve a robust and effective solution. Your responsibilities will include the meticulous planning of activities, providing sound and realistic completion estimates, and integrating appropriate risk mitigation measures to proactively address potential challenges. The position will be based at the BAE Systems Land UK site in Glascoed, Monmouthshire on a five-day working pattern with occasional travel to other customer, manufacturing and test and evaluation sites.
