What you’ll be doing

  • Define and oversee a formalised modelling approach to systems architecture development for complex control systems applying MBSE approaches, ensuring efficient and cohesive integration in support of the Product delivery teams, driving thought leadership and innovation as it relates to the modelling and simulation environment
  • Work with the wider project team to support the definition and derivation of the product requirements, detailing traceability to subsystem level, ensuring alignment with programme objectives
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of systems, while adhering to industry standards and best practices
  • Present and communicate with Senior Management and Board Level representatives on the status of the methodology and solutions based on a MBSE approach
  • Drive forward systems interventions activities, applying MBSE practices in support of reaching successful conclusions
  • Lead and manage the Systems Architecture team, mentoring and driving best practices across the wider FS AVC team
  • Promote MBSE adoption across engineering teams, enabling consistent modelling practices and improved collaboration, continuously improving MBSE capabilities, tools, and workflows to enhance engineering efficiency and quality

Your skills and experiences

Essential:

  • Demonstrable understanding and practical application of Model Based Systems Engineering thinking and supporting toolsets, such as SysML, CAMEO, System Composer etc
  • Sound understanding of the full systems engineering lifecycle (V-model, Agile, Iterative) in a practical environment
  • Ability to define and articulate complex systems architectures against an evolving set of requirements
  • Firm understanding of a model driven systems engineering approaches with respect to Product Design, Development, Testing and Acceptance
  • Understanding and application of complex large model management in the simulation environment, in particular requirements elicitation and analysis .
  • Experience of leading and managing engineering teams in a dynamic environment with excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Degree qualified or equivalent within a STEM field

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in Mathworks System Composer and Simulink applications
  • Working in a fast-paced, dynamic, agile development environment with changing priorities and evolving requirements
  • Knowledge and experience of working with and applying certification frameworks (DO-178C) to systems design
  • Professional recognised (or working towards) Chartered status with an appropriate institute/professional body

The Active Vehicle Control Functional Software Team

BAE SYSTEMS is committed to delivering the Dreadnought class of boat to the UK Royal Navy. The Active Vehicle Control (AVC) Functional (FS) Software Team plays an integral role utilising contemporary Model Based Systems Engineering techniques to design and develop software requirements. As the Lead Systems Engineer (MBSE) you will be responsible for developing the model-driven systems engineering approach to Product Design, Development, Testing and Acceptance. The role will develop and draw on your technical skills through our partnerships with leading tool providers, as well as your leadership skills in deploying across a large engineering team.
