Overview: The Application Portfolio team is a newly formed small team with wide reach situated in the Digital, Data & Infrastructure organisation within BAE Systems Air Sector. Over several decades the organisation has accumulated a vast diverse digital landscape that supports how we Design, Build, Test and Support our products. As the landscape continues to evolve and grow, there is an increasing need to understand, optimise and strategically manage the application estate to ensure it remains sustainable, secure and aligned to future requirements. The Application Portfolio team exists to provide the visibility, accountability and coordination across the Business Functions, IT Teams and Finance to enable a clear forward-looking view of our Application estate and the required investment to sustain, modernise and transform it.
This is an opportunity to be an intrinsic part of the newly formed team, helping to define and develop ways of working, build credibility with stakeholders and starting to influence how a large complex organisation manages and optimises its application portfolio in a structured and forward-looking way.
What you'll be doing:
- Facilitating the embedding of application portfolio management as a capability within the Air Sector through communications, benefits planning, realisation and organisation development.
- Championing Application Portfolio Management frameworks, processes and tools out in the Air Business; regularly engaging key stakeholder groups and providing the support and feedback mechanism as required.
- Leading engagements across DD&I stakeholders to propose and drive improvements to our end-to-end processes, frameworks & technology that will enable us to provide a more robust and enabling view of the application portfolio to the business.
- Ensuring integration of Air Sector IM&T and our operating model with the Group-driven One DDC operating model to ensure maximum harmonisation, specifically around application portfolio management & digital product management.
- Act as a primary portfolio partner to Application Business Owners, Technical Owners and IT Delivery Teams to help triangulate communications to aid investment prioritisation and planning discussions in relation to the app portfolio.
- Working with IT, Business Continuity and Risk Management teams to provide a cohesive and compelling story whilst ensuring a clear risk ownership approach for the application portfolio.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration whilst leveraging the framework, data and tooling available to provide insight and create imperative around pro-active application portfolio management and investment into Financial planning processes.
- Maintain a relationship with the Functions, Business Owners, Business Partners and DD&I colleagues to understand current and future initiatives likely to impact the application portfolio.
- Recording and tracking of key decisions, actions and outcomes to ensure that portfolio raised issues or opportunities don't stall, drift or get lost.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Comfortable operation across both business and IT boundaries.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Clear communicator able to simplify complex issues.
- Ability to take the lead and be autonomous in a developing team where all processes, systems, data and boundaries have not yet been set.
Desirable:
- A degree in an IT related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience in Portfolio Management, IT Asset Management, Business Change, IT Strategy or a related field.
- Certifications in prominent IT frameworks and/or membership body's.
