What you'll be doing:
- You’ll be trained to use MIG/MAG/Flux Core welding processes and a range of power tools and equipment that will enable you to weld throughout the ship building process.
- You will be given specialised training in fillet & butt welds in all positions on mild steel and have the opportunity to learn aluminium and stainless-steel processes.
- There will also be opportunities for training in automated welding processes, including Submerged Arc and the Bug-O track welder.
- You will be trained to recognise and work to BAE's internal quality standards, allowing you to produce high quality welds, to X-ray standard where required.
- You will gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety regulations including Confined Spaces, Working at Height, Provision of Use of Work Equipment, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and Personal Protective Equipment.
What qualifications will you get:
- Performing Engineering Operations SVQ2
- National Certificate in Welding & Fabrication (Optional Higher National Certificate in Fabrication, Welding & Inspection)
- Level 7 Engineering Diploma Pathway B: Engineering Manufacturing and Fabrication
