What You’ll Be Doing

  • Technical Proficiency: Work from engineering drawings, data, and documentation to carry out the manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, fault diagnosis, and maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment, including Main Propulsion Machinery and Weapons systems.
  • Hands‑On Installation: As a Mechanical Fitter apprentice, you will install major equipment and machinery aboard ships, preparing and aligning seats for main engines, gearboxes, and propulsion shafts, utilising precise alignment techniques to meet strict tolerances for a successful build.
  • Complex Machinery Skills: Receive training in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of complex machinery, gaining expertise in reading engineering drawings and using a wide range of tools essential for the role.
  • Equipment Management: Take responsibility for the upkeep of valves, pumps, and transmission systems, as well as prime movers such as diesel engines and gas turbines, while understanding and adhering to Health and Safety regulations in the workplace.
  • Collaborative Work Environment: Collaborate with various trade groups, such as Pipefitters, during the installation of equipment systems, actively contributing to preparations for Ship Delivery and enhancing your teamwork skills in a dynamic marine setting.
