Location: Portsmouth – Naval Base

Salary: Circa £53000 + depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensure the safe recommissioning of ship systems, including power generation, fuel systems, lubrication systems, seawater systems, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain clear oversight of system status, including defect status reports, defect clearance progress, and regeneration tracking.
  • Produce and maintain accurate test forms and ensure they are available for system inspections and trials.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to maintain system integrity, resolve technical issues, and support project objectives.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for technical support and sign-off of key systems.
  • Manage and control changes to system requirements, minimising impact on project timelines and ensuring smooth system regeneration.
  • Ensure compliance with certification standards and maintain clear, accurate documentation.

Your skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience operating and understanding systems on Type 45 destroyers.
  • Proven track record in recommissioning complex systems within the maritime or defence sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering principles and concepts within a specialised discipline.
  • Experience working across multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle, particularly within the defence or maritime industry.
  • Skilled in preparing and formally checking technical documentation, calculations, and drawings, ensuring compliance with specifications, quality, and technical standards.

Type 45 technical authority team:

In this role, you will take the lead in ensuring the safe recommissioning of vital ship systems, including power generation, fuel systems, lubrication systems, seawater systems, and mechanical systems such as stabilisers. You will be responsible for maintaining clear oversight of system status, managing defect reports, and tracking progress to ensure seamless regeneration. Collaborating closely with engineering teams and external OEMs, you will coordinate technical support and resolve any issues that may arise, while also ensuring compliance with certification standards. Your initiative-taking approach will be essential in maintaining system integrity and achieving reliable, fully operational systems critical to project success.
