What You'll Be Doing
As a Solution Architect, you will design, own, and communicate a pragmatic, risk-aware transition roadmap that moves the Digital Intelligence estate from its current state to the target architecture. You will embed cloud-infrastructure expertise—spanning public, private, and hybrid environments—to ensure migration steps are technically sound, cost-effective, and aligned with BAE Systems standards. In addition, you will assure and lead the development of solution architectures that meet both functional and non-functional requirements, manage smooth transition into operation, and mitigate technical risks in collaboration with quality and test management. You will consult with stakeholders to evolve early solutions, uphold architecture standards, and work closely with the Chief Enterprise Architect and Head of Technology Strategy to shape initiatives that deliver a secure, resilient, and future-ready digital estate.
Essential Your skills and experiences
- Proven experience in solution architecture and transition planning within large, regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, containerisation, infrastructure-as-code, and networking/security concepts.
- Ability to translate technical migration steps into concise, senior-level roadmaps and business cases.
- Expertise in architecture modelling and visual communication using tools such as Bizzdesign.
- Solid grasp of non-functional requirements (NFRs), technical risk management, and assurance practices.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, capable of influencing senior leaders.
- Proficiency with AI Assisted tooling.
- Minimum SC clearance; DV may be required.
Desirable
- Experience with hybrid hosting models, multi-cloud strategies, and emerging technologies.
- Knowledge of security, privacy, and compliance frameworks.
- Professional certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect/GCP) or equivalent experience.
Benefits
As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing & lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.

If you have a disability or health condition (for example dyslexia, autism, an anxiety disorder etc.) that may affect your performance in certain assessment types, please speak to your recruiter about potential reasonable adjustments.

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
