Role Description: As a Senior Process Engineer, you will lead an engineering team to develop and implement robust, cost-effective manufacturing processes aligned with business plans and customer expectations. You will ensure compliance with industry standards by applying Lean principles, Process Control Plans, and PFMEA methodologies while supporting automation initiatives. The role involves approving technical specifications, qualifying complex equipment, and collaborating with suppliers to meet deadlines and regulatory requirements. You will drive process optimisation through data-led decisions, oversee safety-critical documentation, and support project activities including capability studies. Additionally, you will communicate performance insights to stakeholders and lead process safety and new process introduction across the full lifecycle.
Core Duties:
- Directing an engineering team to develop new manufacturing processes, in line with engineering plans and budgets.
- Ensuring technical solutions and processes are robust, timely, cost-effective and meet customer expectations.
- Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standard controls that ensure long term process stability, including Lean Principles, Process Control Plans, PFMEAs; plus, awareness of Programmable Logic Controls and Visual Management Systems on automated process lines.
- Approve technical specifications and lead the qualification of complex equipment, work with suppliers to meet tight deadlines.
- Ensure all process equipment meets regulatory and safety standards.
- Coordinating development activities to establish supporting data that ensures the manufacturing processes are based on a sound understanding of the materials which are being processed and the technology adopted for the plant and equipment.
- Reviewing and approving critical to safety manufacturing documentation sets i.e. Process Control Plans, Product and Process Risk Assessments.
- Support project activities, to include process reviews, capability studies, and Safe System of Work.
- Present to line management and other stakeholders (verbal and written) on topics relating to process status and process capability, e.g. KPIs.
- Be responsible for, and lead process safety within the process engineering team.
- Responsible for leading new Process introduction including capital acquisition throughout its lifecycle.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum Degree Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Engineering or equivalent.
- Have a technical and manufacturing base, show initiative and be able to work under pressure.
- Prioritising a constantly varying workload, in parallel with maintaining high quality standards and meeting deadlines.
- IOSH Managing Safety / NEBOSH Certificate.
- Understanding of equipment related safety.
- Experience in materials processing, together with CompEx/ATEX certification and exposure to COMAH sites, would be advantageous.

The Special Projects Team: As a Senior Process Engineer, you will lead the design, optimisation, and continuous improvement of key production and operational processes. You’ll apply deep technical expertise and problem-solving skills to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety while driving innovation across multidisciplinary teams. This role requires strong analytical capability, hands-on experience with process design and implementation, and the ability to guide junior engineers through technical challenges.
The position will be based at the BAE Systems Land UK site in Glascoed, Monmouthshire on a four-day working pattern within a hybrid-working environment with occasional travel to other customer, manufacturing and test and evaluation sites.
