Location: Portsmouth Naval Base – site based

Salary: Up to £65,000 dependent on skills and experiences + bonus scheme

Role description: You will lead the day-to-day management and coordination of all support activities for an assigned platform, delivering through‑life support including in‑service, upkeep and deployed activity. Work collaboratively across teams and partners to meet customer requirements, ensuring delivery to the operational programme within agreed time and budget. Be accountable for the safety, capability and availability of the allocated ship. Manage resources effectively, support continuous improvement, and balance operational priorities to achieve agreed outcomes while maintaining compliance with relevant standards and customer expectations.

Core duties:

  • Act as the single point of contact, ensuring the ship is safe, capable, available, and supported
  • Own and manage through‑life support, including in‑year budgets and updates to the Through Life Management Plan
  • Deliver good financial performance across customer and business financial years for the allocated platform
  • Programme manage all through‑life activities, including maintenance, defect support and capability insertion
  • Own the Platform Support Plan, contributing ship‑specific inputs to wider fleet and Navy planning schedules
  • Maintain stakeholder alignment, accurate material state visibility, clear risk reporting, and provide out‑of‑hours support when required

Essential skills:

  • Experience managing complex engineering systems within ship or marine programmes across their full lifecycle
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver complex engineering or support programmes successfully
  • Confident communicator, able to influence customers, suppliers and stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience delivering engineering support on ships, including whole‑ship safety case management
  • Considerable practical knowledge of project management methods, including planning, risk, change, cost and budget management
  • Professional project management qualification (e.g. APM, PMI) or equivalent practical experience

The Type 45 Class Output Management team coordinates maintenance, engineering, and availability planning for Type 45 destroyers, ensuring work packages are delivered efficiently, risks managed, and stakeholders aligned to keep each ship operational, safe, and ready for Royal Navy tasking.
