Job Description: To undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements under the direction of the Shared Infrastructure (SI) System Design Authority (SDA). The role supports the defining of the technical solution and the development of the SI solution across platforms upon which SI is available. This will cover a broad range of systems design technical skills.
Core duties:
- Contribute to the development of specifications within SI programmes, produce designs that meet all technical and quality standards, and conduct design reviews in allocated areas to ensure compliance and integrity.
- Undertake technical analyses and investigations within SI programmes, assess and compare engineering options, and produce clear reports with recommendations that support issue resolution and strengthen engineering capability.
- Serve as a key engineering contact for customers and suppliers on SI programme matters, helping to resolve issues and ensuring both sides remain aligned on priorities and objectives.
- Provide technical leadership within SI programmes, offering guidance where needed and acting as a central point for reviewing and shaping technical solutions.
- Support the development of SI specific bids by contributing technical expertise to ensure proposals are robust, accurate, and of high quality.
Essential Skills:
- Experience of systems design, integration & test.
- Practical experience across several stages of the software/systems lifecycle, such as requirements, design, implementation, integration and verification.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline such as Software or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics. You should also be Chartered or working towards.
The Shared Infrastructure Product Team: The SI team supports the infrastructure solution for the Royal Navy (RN) across the Fleet supporting Ship’s Mission Systems. This role will support a number of classes of warship. This is part of the Combat Systems group which provide diverse Mission systems to every ship in the RN Fleet. This role interacts with these system providers as well as external system providers. The Combat Systems SI team are currently developing the next generation of Infrastructure for all classes which will support the RNs move to a Hybrid Navy.
