A key Project Management role has arisen on our £8bn Type-26 programme and we are seeking a high performing driven individual to take on the next challenge in their Project Management career.

The Type 26 Global Combat Ship Programme is one of the UK’s flagship naval shipbuilding projects. As we continue our transition from delivery of the first-of-class vessel through to repeat build and batch production, our project and programme management teams are responsible for ensuring that we deliver to our contractual commitments in terms of schedule and cost, while constantly seeking out opportunities to improve upon our budgeted positions.

The Project Manager supports the Shipbuild Project Delivery team, delivering assigned scopes such as discrete projects, work packages, or multiple Control Accounts. Reporting to the Ship Head of Project, they act as a Control Account Manager, accountable for cost, schedule, and technical performance. Working within an integrated team, they provide experienced project management support to senior leadership on a multi-layered programme, ensuring robust planning, consistent processes, accurate reporting, and effective risk management while coordinating with specialists to drive performance and achieve successful outcomes.

Core Duties:

  • Deliver multiple Control Accounts ensuring full definition, planning and control of project scope
  • Ensure accurate progress reporting against budget, schedule and quality targets
  • Ensure financial performance, cost control, forecasting and risk management for assigned scope
  • Guide and support customer and stakeholder groups through reviews and progress meetings
  • Support planning and preparation activities for Phase Reviews

Essential Skills:

  • You will demonstrate extensive professional knowledge of project management tools, techniques, and practices, with understanding of Commercial and Finance
  • You will develop innovative solutions to multi-layered project and business inquiries
  • You will be recognised as an experienced and credible project guidance practitioner within the wider business
  • You will hold a recognised professional project management qualification (e.g., APM, PMI) or equivalent experience

The Project Delivery team:

Our shipbuild PM delivery team works within our Manufacturing PMO. Being part of this organisation will give you the opportunity to lead teams within our recently opened shipbuild facility, the Janet Harvey Hall. This magnificent new environment represents a true step change in the long history of shipbuilding on the Clyde allowing us to build two ships indoors side-by-side for the first time.
