Principal Engineer – Data Quality Management in Glasgow

Salary: Up to £65,665 dependent on experience.

Role description: As a Principal Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading the Data Governance workscope on the River-Class Destroyer Programme. This role involves engaging with stakeholders to facilitate governance expectations, define requirements for data, and support the creation, maintenance and delivery of enterprise-wide data governance activities. You will also be responsible for establishing and assuring data policies, standards and practices, helping to improve the data quality and management of our information assets.

Core Duties:

• Support the delivery of the Data Governance/Assurance framework to the River-Class Destroyer Programme.
• Lead in the coordination of resources supporting and implementing Data Quality Management and Governance/Assurance initiatives including data owners and stewards.
• Support in the development of measures for assessing the benefit to the business of data governance and assurance, periodically measuring the effectiveness and feeding it back to senior stakeholders.
• Delivery of data governance and assurance awareness and training across the programme.
• Supporting the River-Class Destroyer Programme on understanding data quality issues and providing support and advice on how they are to be resolved.
• Ensuring the resolution of data quality issues are completed and suitable processes are in place to stop repeat of issue.

Essential skills:

• Degree-qualified (or with equivalent experience) in a relevant technology, engineering, science, or IT discipline, and hold Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution.
• Demonstrable experience in data governance, data quality management, data lifecycle management, and the use of data governance and PLM tools (including Windchill) to establish trusted, compliant, and business-critical data processes.
• Good capability in data flow identification and mapping, data requirements capture and documentation, and the application of analytics and visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Cognos) to support informed decision-making.
• Proven experience delivering complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects, with the ability to engage and influence customers and stakeholders across international environments while leveraging modern digital toolsets.

The River-Class Destroyer Data Governance team at BAE Systems work within the Systems Engineering team as part of the Office of the Chief Engineer. Data Governance plays a key role in developing and implementing data governance frameworks and processes across the RCD programme.
