We are seeking a Senior Through-Life Support Engineer to help shape and deliver innovative support solutions for advanced air systems. The role focuses on developing digital support strategies and defining data-driven solutions that enhance the delivery of through-life services. Working across engineering and support functions, you will help ensure data and information are effectively managed, analysed and exploited to improve system availability, optimise performance and support long-term sustainment throughout the operational lifecycle of the platform.
Core duties:
- Lead engagement with customers and industry subject matter experts to elicit, define and capture the digital capability requirements needed to underpin the Through-Life Support (TLS) solution.
- Lead the development, maintenance and delivery of the Through-Life Support Digital Strategy, driving the implementation of strategic objectives through the design and evolution of TLS solutions.
- Lead collaboration with system architects to develop model-based representations of the TLS digital ecosystem, ensuring alignment between operational, technical and support requirements.
- Drive the integration of the TLS Digital Strategy across wider programme activities, ensuring requirements for IT systems, digital infrastructure, data management, governance, technologies, and C2&I capabilities are identified, communicated and embedded.
- Lead the alignment of the TLS Digital Strategy with related programme, product and service development strategies to ensure a coherent and integrated approach.
- Lead and coordinate the activities of a small team, providing direction, supporting planning and review activities, and ensuring delivery of key milestones, outputs and programme objectives.
Essential Skills:
- Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (Engineering, Mathematics, Science, IT) or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience leading and coordinating teams, providing technical direction and driving delivery against strategic objectives.
- Demonstrable experience supporting and delivering digital transformation initiatives within complex engineering, technology or support environments.
- Strong ability to engage with stakeholders and translate customer requirements, operational needs and emerging technologies into clear strategies, roadmaps and implementation plans.
- Experience applying Data Management, Data Standards, Data Modelling, Data Engineering and Data Science principles, with an understanding of how data can be exploited to enhance support and service delivery.
- Knowledge of supportability and defence support frameworks, including experience with one or more of: UK MOD Knowledge in Defence (KiD), Support Solution Envelope 21 (SSE21), Integrated Logistics Support (Def-Stan 00-600), or ASD/AIA S-Series Integrated Product Support Specifications.
- Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools, such as MooD, CAMEO, SysML or MagicGrid.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate and lead across multidisciplinary teams and customer organisations.
The Through Life Data Exploitation Team:
Join a growing team within our Air Sector that is shaping the future of Through-Life Support through digital transformation. The team is responsible for developing the digital strategies, architectures and solutions that will enable data-driven support services across the lifecycle of advanced air systems. Working at the intersection of engineering, support, data and technology, the team focuses on how information can be effectively captured, managed and exploited to optimise system availability, performance and sustainment outcomes.
This is an opportunity to play a leading role in defining innovative support solutions and influencing how future support capabilities are delivered. We recognise there is no single perfect background for this position and welcome applications from experienced digital strategists, systems engineers, supportability professionals and digital transformation practitioners who have successfully delivered complex digital solutions within engineering, defence, aerospace or product support environments.
