Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, integration and support of a range of aircraft systems, including mechanical, electrical and fluid systems. Areas of responsibility may include landing gear, fuel systems, electrical power generation and distribution, crew escape systems, environmental control and thermal management, flight controls, and propulsion integration.

As a Senior Flight Systems Engineer, you will contribute across the full engineering lifecycle, from early concept development and requirements capture through to detailed design, verification, qualification, production support and in-service sustainment. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers and customers to deliver robust and innovative system solutions.

Core duties:

  • Perform and lead engineering activities across the full product lifecycle, including requirements capture, system design and development, modelling and analysis, testing, integration, qualification and certification.
  • Develop, deliver and support aircraft flight systems across a range of mechanical, electrical and fluid system domains.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers, investigating and resolving engineering issues to ensure continued system performance and reliability.
  • Support manufacturing and build-line activities, delivering effective problem-solving and timely resolution of technical challenges.
  • Produce, review and release high-quality engineering documentation and technical data in accordance with established standards, procedures and programme requirements.
  • Utilise engineering analysis and modelling tools to assess system performance, validate designs and support development activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project stakeholders, customers and suppliers to develop and implement effective engineering solutions.
  • Manage and prioritise multiple work packages across a variety of projects and aircraft platforms, ensuring delivery to quality, cost and schedule objectives.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, design assessments and continuous improvement initiatives to support programme success and engineering excellence.

Essential Skills:

  • HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience in a relevant STEM discipline, such as Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related scientific field.
  • Experience working within the aerospace industry or a similarly complex engineering or technology-focused environment.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience, with the ability to lead engineering teams and coordinate technical activities across projects.
  • Strong technical and analytical capability, with the ability to research, interpret and apply system design data to complex engineering challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to utilise specialist engineering tools and software.
  • Experience supporting the design, development, integration, testing or certification of complex engineering systems.
  • Experience managing multiple engineering work packages across a range of projects and platforms.

The Flight Systems Engineering Team:

Join our highly skilled Flight Systems Engineering team at Brough, where you'll work on the development and support of critical aircraft systems across some of the world's most advanced military aircraft platforms. The team provides specialist engineering expertise across mechanical, electrical and fluid systems, supporting multiple in-service programmes including Typhoon, Tornado, Hawk and F-35.
