The National Badminton Centre (NBC) is an accredited Elite Training Centre and the home of badminton in England, where talented athletes are developed to compete for England and Great Britain on the world stage. Alongside world-class badminton courts, we offer public and professional gym facilities, fitness suites, a spin studio, meeting rooms, a popular 25-room hotel, a sports bar, restaurant, and the National Badminton Museum, all open to the public. Role summary
The Catering Assistant will be responsible for providing a warm welcoming environment for all visitors to the NBC including Olympic athletes, Gym & Badminton club members, Museum guests, lodge guests and Badminton England office team. The role requires someone who is customer focused, adaptable, and capable of handling a variety of tasks and works well in a team as well as on their own initiative.
Customer Service
- Create a warm, welcoming environment for all customers and staff
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests – being open, friendly, confident and approachable
- Proudly representing Badminton England Catering team, embodying our values and promoting a positive brand image
- Handling transactions with ease and operating the cashless register efficiently
- Upholding the highest standards of Food Handling & Hygiene

Operational Management
- Open to shift working patterns
- Maintain clean kitchen and guest seating areas
- Key Holder – to gain access to the facility prior to official opening times, to support daily preparations
- Carry out Operational checks/ cleaning tasks in accordance with our inhouse operations management system
- Co-ordinate with the chef to ensure the kitchen is safe and well maintained. Reporting any repairs needed
- Undertake the preparation and serving of both food and drinks
Financial Management
- We are a cashless site - Process till transactions through square and ensure accurate record keeping for sales
- Assist with implementation of cost-saving measures without compromising quality/service
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure compliance with health and safety/Hygiene regulations for the restaurant including but not limited to: Fridge temperatures, food temperatures/procedures for effective heating and cooling/labelling/allergen management
- Be emergency response ready including the coordinating of evacuations for the restaurant areas
Communication
- Work well in the team - contribute to team handovers
- Escalate customer complaints or operational challenges when needed
- Foster a motivating work environment through living our BE values
Qualifications & Skills
- Level 2 Hygiene qualification
- Allergen awareness course
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment
Additional Requirements
- The role will require the successful candidate to work evenings and weekends
- The role will include the serving of alcohol
