The National Badminton Centre is all set with a modern new look and we want you to be a part of its reinvention. An accredited Elite Training Centre, the NBC is the home of badminton in England, where the best talent is nurtured and elite athletes are developed to compete and represent England and Great Britain on the world stage. We host world-class badminton courts open to clubs, coaches and the wider badminton community. However, we are also home to public and professional gym facilities, fitness suites and a spin studio, meeting rooms, a popular three-star 25-room hotel, a sports bar, a small restaurant and we even host the National Badminton Museum - all open to the public.

Role summary/ Job purpose

The Catering Assistant will be responsible for providing a warm welcoming environment for all visitors to the NBC including Olympic athletes, Gym & Badminton club members, Museum guests, lodge guests and Badminton England office team. The role requires someone who is customer focused, adaptable, and capable of handling a variety of tasks and works well in a team as well as on their own initiative.

Main responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Create a warm, welcoming environment for all customers and staff. Provide excellent customer service to all guests – being open, friendly, confident and approachable. Proudly representing Badminton England Catering team, embodying our values and promoting a positive brand image. Handling transactions with ease and operating the cashless register efficiently. Upholding the highest standards of Food Handling & Hygiene. Ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to all Health & Safety regulations. Bring a positive, can-do attitude to everything you do. Show genuine passion for delivering exceptional customer service. Excel as a supportive and collaborative team player. Embrace the excitement of thriving under pressure. Demonstrate impeccable time management and reliability. Prioritise safety in every task you undertake. Previous experience in a similar catering role is a bonus, but your enthusiasm is what truly matters.
  • Operational Management: Open to shift working patterns. Maintain clean kitchen and guest seating areas. Key Holder – to gain access to the facility prior to official opening times, to support daily preparations. Carry out Operational checks/ cleaning tasks in accordance with our inhouse operations management system. Co-ordinate with the chef to ensure the kitchen is safe and well maintained. Reporting any repairs needed. Undertake the preparation and serving of both food and drinks.
  • Financial Management: We are a cashless site - Process till transactions through square and ensure accurate record keeping for sales. Assist with implementation of cost-saving measures without compromising quality/service.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety/Hygiene regulations for the restaurant including but not limited to: Fridge temperatures, food temperatures/procedures for effective heating and cooling/labelling/allergen management. Be emergency response ready including the coordinating of evacuations for the restaurant areas.
  • Communication: Work well in the team - contribute to team handovers. Escalate customer complaints or operational challenges when needed. Foster a motivating work environment through living our BE values.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Level 2 Hygiene qualification
  • Allergen awareness course
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • The role will require the successful candidate to work evenings and weekends.
  • The role will include the serving of alcohol.
