MIG Welder to cut and join metals and other materials. MIG Welder operates appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. It is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate tools and metals, measuring, and assembling metal pieces.
  • Using cutting tools, determining gas ratios, drilling holes, and monitoring inventory.
  • Following health and safety regulations at all times and reporting any issues to the line manager.
  • Cutting and smoothing metal components using plasma cutters, portable grinders, lathe, and milling machines.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and production drawings in order to lay out a welding project.
  • Collaborating with project managers and welding supervisors to ensure smooth work operations.
  • Guiding and directing the activities of inexperienced/trainee welders.
  • Maintaining welding safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a risk-free work environment.
  • Carrying out welding according to set dimensions to meet general test requirements.
  • Organising and cleaning welding equipment on a regular basis.
  • Monitoring inventory level of materials to notify supervisor of stock shortage.
  • Boring holes through metal workpieces using drill press.
  • Welding materials in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Adjusting gas gauges to set the flow rate of shield gas.
  • Conducting hydrostatic, x-ray, and tolerance tests to assess weld quality and conformance to specification.
  • Using measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to inspect angles, grooves or gap allowances.
  • Applying knowledge of metallurgy and geometry in selecting welding equipment and configuration.
