The Geotechnical Sub Alliance (GSA) is at the forefront of the Sizewell C nuclear power station development - one of the UK’s largest and most exciting infrastructure programmes. We’re responsible for preparing the foundations of the entire site: designing and constructing cut‑off walls, retaining structures, soil improvements and more. Using advanced geotechnical engineering and world‑class construction technologies, this is a rare opportunity to contribute to a national project that will shape the UK’s clean‑energy future.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and organised Site Engineer to plan and manage day‑to‑day workfronts for the safe, high‑quality and efficient delivery of ground engineering works. The role is site‑based and requires strong technical capability, disciplined record‑keeping and close coordination with operations, safety, quality, commercial and procurement teams, within an NEC4 Alliance environment. You will take ownership of your assigned scope, ensuring full compliance with safety, quality, programme and commercial requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Technical Delivery & Site Operations: Coordinate labour, plant and materials; ensure works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications, ITPs, RAMS and permits; and maintain accurate site and technical records.
- Safety & Site Briefings: Lead daily briefings and toolbox talks, conduct Level 1 incident investigations, ensure permit compliance and promote safe systems of work at all times.
- Quality & Assurance: Prepare and implement ITPs, coordinate testing and witness points, manage NCRs, maintain red‑line/as‑built drawings and compile QA handover documentation.
- Programme, Productivity & Planning: Maintain 2–6 week look‑ahead programmes, track progress and productivity against targets, manage float and sequencing, identify constraints and support delay analysis and recovery actions.
- Commercial, Procurement & Contractual: Support procurement activities including specifications, orders and subcontract administration; raise and track Early Warnings and NCEs; provide inputs to CEs and cost control; and apply NEC4 Alliance procedures, including risk‑reduction and change control processes.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Supervise small teams and apprentices, provide constructive feedback, support basic people management conversations, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary support teams.
The role requires flexibility to support site delivery and may involve occasional weekend or night working as part of a managed rotation system.
What We’re Looking For
- Essential
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
- CSCS and SSSTS or SMSTS
- Solid experience in ground‑engineering works (e.g. diaphragm walling, soil mixing)
- Confident reading and applying drawings and specifications with strong record discipline
- Experience with look‑ahead planning, float management, Early Warnings, NCEs and supporting CEs within an NEC4 Alliance environment
- Strong IT capability, including Excel and Word (advanced), MS Project or P6, AutoCAD and CEMAR
- Ownership mindset, clear communicator, resilient and collaborative approach
- Desirable
- Typically 2–5 years’ experience in a Site or Contracts Engineer role
