We’re looking for a Facilities & Compliance Checks Operator to join that story, someone who takes pride in keeping our distilleries safe, compliant, and ready for every mash, every distillation, and every tanker dispatched with future character.

As a Facilities & Compliance Checks Operator working across our Distilleries, you will support day‑to‑day operations, from the warm steamy heart of the still house to the quiet calm of our mash houses, you’ll help ensure our sites run smoothly and safely. You’ll be the person who keeps the wheels turning literally and figuratively so our distillers can focus on creating exceptional spirit.

Continuous improvement is a core element of this role. The successful candidate will demonstrate a structured and consistent approach to identifying and implementing improvements that enhance operational standards, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections across all areas to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Monitor and support operation of essential utilities including:
    • Steam boilers and condensate return
    • Hot and cold-water systems
    • Chilled water and glycol systems
    • Compressed air
    • Effluent treatment and pot ale/spent lees handling
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks to keep production areas safe and operational, could include work such as drain cleaning, general painting, power washing, and wider site cleaning.
  • Ensure walkways, access routes, and production floors meet housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Support readiness for production start‑ups, shutdowns, and seasonal maintenance periods.
  • Carry out scheduled compliance checks aligned with HMRC requirements.
  • Perform statutory and industry‑required inspections such as:
    • Fire safety systems (extinguishers, hydrants, alarms)
    • ATEX-rated equipment checks in hazardous zones
    • Emergency lighting and evacuation routes
    • Legionella and water hygiene monitoring
    • Pressure systems safety checks (steam plant, air receivers)
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, ensuring all compliance documentation is up to date and accessible for internal audits, HMRC inspections, and industry certifications.
  • Identify non‑conformities and support corrective actions to maintain audit readiness.
  • Monitor hazardous areas including:
    • Still house (high‑temperature equipment, ethanol vapour)
    • Spirit store (flammable atmospheres)
    • Mash house (wet floors, mechanical equipment)
  • Support DSEAR/ATEX compliance by ensuring ignition controls, ventilation, and equipment integrity.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly to the distillery management team.
  • Support waste management processes specific to distilling:
    • Effluent handling
    • Pot ale and spent lees handling
    • General site waste and recycling
  • Assist with monitoring environmental compliance in the following areas:
    • Effluent discharge limits and locations
    • Water sources and abstraction points
  • Update compliance management systems, maintenance logs, and HMRC‑related documentation as and when required.
  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure alignment on compliance-related matters.
  • Support planning of preventative maintenance schedules for production-support equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure documentation is always audit‑ready.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Experience in a distillery operations.
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations relevant to distilling (COSHH, DSEAR, ATEX, manual handling).
  • IOSH or NEBOSH
  • First Aid
  • Legionella awareness
  • Permit‑to‑work awareness training
  • Understanding of HMRC regulations.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Working week

Mon – Thu 08:00 hrs – 16:30 hrs, Fri 08:00 hrs – 12:00 hrs. This role does not attract shift allowance.
