The HR Manager is accountable for leading and delivering the Bermuda HR agenda, with ownership and oversight of core HR operations including Bermuda Immigration, employee relations, payroll & benefits administration, HR systems data integrity, local compliance, and strengthening HR practices. Reporting to the Senior HR Director, the HR Manager ensures that HR practices not only meet regulatory and operational requirements, but also support business priorities and long‑term organizational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- General Human Resources
- Own and lead the delivery of HR support for employees and managers in Bermuda, acting as trusted advisor and primary point of contact.
- Drive the full employee lifecycle ensuring effective and consistent delivery across recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and offboarding.
- Provide thoughtful, solutions‑oriented guidance to leaders on workforce matters, balancing local legislation, company policy and business needs, escalating complex matters to the Senior HR Director.
- Monitor and assess employee engagement, and support the implementation of action plans to drive engagement.
- Contribute to and support organizational design, and local talent initiatives with ownership of workforce planning.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high‑performance workplace culture, including oversight of local employee committees and initiatives.
- Lead and contribute to local and regional HR projects, ensuring delivery of sustainable, high‑impact outcomes aligned with business priorities.
- Employee Relations & Employment Law Compliance
- Lead employee relations matters including investigations, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and conflict resolution, applying sound judgement and ensuring fair, consistent and compliant outcomes.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Bermuda employment legislation, including the Employment Act, labor relations requirements, and data privacy standards, proactively identifying and addressing potential risks.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in alignment with regulatory and company requirements.
- Support and prepare for audits, ensuring that processes and documentation meet both internal and external standards.
- Payroll, Benefits & Leave Administration
- May oversee monthly payroll inputs and controls, ensuring accuracy, integrity and timely delivery in partnership with external vendors.
- Own the administration and effectiveness of employee benefits programs covering both local and international offerings.
- Serve as the key relationship owner for vendors, brokers, and internal partners ensuring strong service delivery and issue resolution.
- Effectively manage leave administration in accordance with Bermuda statutory requirements and company policies.
- Partner with Payroll, Finance, and corporate HR teams to continually improve processes and ensure accurate plan administration.
- Immigration Compliance & Work Permit Management
- Own and oversee all Bermuda immigration processes, including work permit applications, renewals, amendments, and cancellations – in partnership with the external immigration support vendor.
- Provide clear and proactive guidance to leaders and employees on immigration requirements, compliance obligations, and timelines.
- Maintain robust tracking and documentation and forward planning of work permit status and expiration dates.
- HR Systems & Data Integrity
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of HR data within HR systems (e.g., Workday).
- Analyze HR data and provide insights to support decision making and identify opportunities.
- Own governance of HR transactions including hires, job changes, compensation updates, benefits, and terminations.
- Partner with COEs and HR Operations teams to drive and resolve data issues and support system enhancements.
- Compensation & HR Programs
- Support compensation activities including salary adjustments, promotions, allowances, and incentive plans.
- Play a key role in annual HR cycles such as performance reviews, merit increases, and benefits enrollment, ensuring effective planning, communication and execution.
- Support continuous improvement of HR programs, processes, and employee experience locally.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in Bermuda or a highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing Bermuda immigration and work permit processes.
- Strong working knowledge of Bermuda employment law, benefits administration, and HR compliance.
- Hands‑on experience with HRIS platforms, preferably Workday, with a focus on data quality and governance.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise effectively.
- High level of discretion and sound judgment in complex or sensitive situations.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to balance operational excellence and strategic thinking.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.
